Industry thought leaders share their perspectives on the impacts of digital technology and how further innovation will shape the future of the maritime industry and seaborne trade. Panelists will consider technologies, adoption trends, standardisation, industry cooperation, trade facilitation and the impacts of digitalisation on commercial shipping and regional/global macro-environments.

Speaker biographies

Punit Oza FICS

Mr. Punit Oza  is the founder of Maritime NXT, Singapore, a platform dedicated to driving the "Next" in Maritime through investing, training, teaching, mentoring, consulting & collaborating in commercial shipping & digital transformation space. Punit is also a director with QUARKS Asia, a a specialist advisory firm based in Norway & Singapore, management consulting, and strategy. Punit is a Senior Adjunct Fellow at Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) Academy, and an Affiliated Research Fellow & Guest Lecturer at Singapore Management University (SMU) lecturing on "Geopolitical risks & their impact on shipping & trade flows" & also hosts a monthly podcast on the topic with Seatrade Maritime Podcast, interviewing prominent shipping & trade leaders. Punit is closely associated as a trainer for BIMCO and also sits on the advisory board of IMBA, India.

Punit has over 30 years of experience in Dry Bulk Shipping, holding senior management positions in some leading shipping companies including Precious Shipping, Noble Group & Torvald Klaveness. He also served as the Executive Director of Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration. Punit is an angel investor and advisor in Motion Ventures, a VC fund focused on Sustainable Maritime and Supply Chain startups. He also sits on the advisory boards of Go Beyond Digital, Tathya.Earth & Integrated Maritime Exchange. Punit holds a Masters in Shipping, Trade and Finance from Bayes (previously CASS) Business School, UK and a LLB and Post Graduate Diploma in Maritime Law from University of London. He is an expert witness and a member of the Baltic Expert Witness Association (BEWA), UK

 

Jan Hoffman

Jan joined UNCTAD in 2003 and is Head of the organization's Trade Logistics Branch since 2016. The Branch implements research and technical assistance programmes in international transport and trade facilitation. Jan has been co-author and coordinator of the "Review of Maritime Transport", "Maritime Country Profiles", and the "Liner Shipping Connectivity Index". Previously, he worked six years for the UN ECLAC in Santiago de Chile, and two years for the IMO in London and Santiago. Prior to this, he held part time positions as assistant professor, import-export agent, and seafarer. Jan has studied in Germany, UK and Spain, and holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Hamburg. He is on the boards of various journals and associations and past president of the International Association of Maritime Economists.

 

Rob O'Dwyer

Rob O'Dwyer is Chief Network Officer and one of the founders of Smart Maritime Network, having worked in the maritime technology sector since 2005. He also serves as Chairman of the Smart Maritime Council, a cross-industry membership association of stakeholders dedicated to improving compatibility, standardisation and harmonisation in maritime digitalisation.
