West Africa Branch
In recent years, West Africa has experienced increased shipping
activities leading to a larger involvement of ICS in the sub-region
through its growing pool of local members. In a bid to better serve
the region, ICS officially recognised Oil and Marine Agencies Ghana
Limited (OMA Ghana) to host its West African branch in Ghana. In
this regard, OMA Ghana in conjunction with ICS launched the
official opening of the West Africa Branch on 16th April
2010 at an event in Accra Ghana attended by 80 persons.
To date, ICS West Africa branch is rapidly growing collating
Members not only from Ghana, but also from Cameroon, Mali,
Monrovia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria where a new chapter has been lauched
recently. Currently, the branch has 53 Members. With the plan
of establishing a local branch in Ghana to offer face-to-face
lectures, the region is set to acquire more members. The Branch
celebrated its one year anniversary with an anniversary dinner and
it was attended by most of the members in Ghana. After a few years
the Branch is still faced with numerous challenges which we hope to
overcome in the course of time.
In Ghana the sub executives are made up of Fred Dartey and
Keteku Gibson. We hope to have such representation in Nigeria in
the course of time.

PROJECT |
It all started with the the Institute's Book Drive project.
Books have been collected through the donations of branches,
members and companies around the world with the aim of building
maritime libraries in those centres where the Institute operates in
challenging circumstances.
Students need a place to study, access to the internet and the
resources that many take for granted. Most of all they need quality
reference books. So the Book Drive project started with the aim of
providing maritime books for the Institute centre in Mombasa,
Kenya. Since its start in February 2018, the project has helped
delivering about two thousands books in three different
countries.
Our West Africa Branch has gone a step further and has launched a
bigger challenge: building a home for those book donations as well
as a space for local maritime students.
