East Africa Branch receives the first donations from the
Book drive collection
|
During the dinner held last Friday 7th September 2018 the branch
celebrated the firt donations of books via the Book
Drive initiative.

Mr. Simon Ward visited East Africa branch in February 2018
during the International ETC meeting that was held in Mombasa
Kenya. During his visit alongside other International ETC members,
Mr. Ward assisted the branch students in preparation for
examination during the branch PREP which was held at the Kenya
Institute of Management. He noticed that a major challenge for the
East Africa students was lack of books and learning materials. Mr.
Ward promised to help by donating the books for the branch library,
a promise that he fulfilled through his books drive
campaign in Greece. Greece has so far donated three
hundred and twelve books courtesy of Simon Ward.

Annual Stakeholders dinner.
Through Ms. Katy, the branch is looking forward to strengthening
the bonds between the Institute branch and Local Ship Agents. Ms.
Katy who is the current Chairlady of the Kenya Ship Agents
Association has promised to help the branch graduates secure
internship opportunities with the local shipping agency. This is a
plan that is underway and once implemented, it will help our
graduates secure internships which may lead to employment.

Mr. Nirjhar, General Manager - Sharaf Shipping Company handed
over the books to the chairman during the branch Stakeholders
dinner. Through Mr. Nirjhar who is also a fellow of the Institute,
Sharaf Shipping (Kenya) Limited has always sponsored best student
awards during the branch Annual dinner and Award presentation
Gala.

East Africa Branch Chairman Mr. Robert Watene FICS receiving

established resource center.
The books were handed over to the branch chairman during
the dinner by Mr. Ahmed Juma of Kenya Maritime Authority
(KMA). Mr. Juma was representing Mr. Macgoye, EBS, OGW the Ag
Director General of Kenya Maritime Authority at the event. Kenya
Maritime Authority has always been one of the major sponsor of the
branch events in promoting ICS activities in Kenya.

East Africa Branch stakeholders dinner in Mombasa

The East Africa branch has held a succesful event on Friday 7th
September 2018.
The branch chairman Robert Watene FICS briefed those in
attendance taking them throught the Institute education offer, the
branch events schedule.
The chair highlighted how institute qualifications can be
beneficial to shipping professionals looking to boost their
career.
The Stakeholders Dinner was attended by professionals working in
the banking and insurance sectors as well higher learning
institutions.
Mansoor Mohamed FICS also addressed the guests during the event.
He is currently member of Branch Membership and Ethics Committee
and took the guests through the Institute membership, its benefits
and procedure to obain it. He emphasized the need of companies
considering applying for Institute corporate membership and most
importantly sponsoring their staff to pursue Institute
qualifications so as to be eligible to become company members.

East Africa Branch 13th annual dinner in Mombasa
|
The East Africa Branch held their 13th annual dinner at Citi
Blue Creek Side hotel on Friday 4th May 2018 from 0600
hours. The event was well attended by over 250 people mostly from
Shipping industry, National Government, County government, ICS
Members and Students.

NAIROBI INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION FAIR

The Institute East Africa Branch took part to the Nairobi fair
from 1st to 4th March.

East Africa Branch hosts the Education and Training
Committee
|
Mombasa, 5-9 February 2018


The East Africa Branch has hosted one of the biggest event
on the Institute calendar.
The Education and Training Committee members arrived in
Mombasa a few days ahead of the meeting to run a preparatory
session over three days for our local students sitting exams in May
2018.
The meeting has been very successful and now there is a
lot of work ahead of us as always to transform all our executives'
great ideas into practice.

East Africa Branch Stakeholders Dinner

On Friday 29th september the branch has organised a get together
dinner for our local stakeholders in the maritime sector. The
dinner was aimed at discussing the role and contribution of the
Institute in the maritime sector. The East Africa Branch took the
opportunity to inform companies on the following:
- Encouraging their staff to pursue ICS qualifications
- Need to employ Institute graduates
- Need to offer internship and attachment opportunity to
Institute students
- Need to sponsor and participate in Institute branch events
(Award, Dinner and PREP sponsorship)

The annual event was held on Friday, 28th April 2017 at the
Voyager beach resort, Kenya.
The East Africa Branch held yet another succesful event with
over 220 guests.
It was a great occasion for the local memebrship to come
together and to award the best students in the branch.

Furthermore, it was also the occasion for the Branch to sign
a strategic MOU with Kenya Institute of Management.

East Africa Branch operating under TVET
The Government of Kenya requires that all examining bodies
offering external examinations be registered by TVET(a
Government department controlling the quality of Technical,
Industrial, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training).
The following photos show the officers from TIVET inspecting our
office for approval and certification.
They were accompanied by the Branch Chairman and Education and
Publicity officer.

The EC members had a weekend out in a quiet place to strategize
on the way for the Branch activities. During the meeting the new
Members were briefed on governance of the Institute.
East Africa Branch - Chair of ETC visit

This year the East Africa Branch was privileged to
host the chair of Education and Training Committee of the Institute
of Chartered Shipbrokers. Susan Oatway FICS met with all the FDS
students and took a whole day guiding them on how to deal with
commercial shipping geography. She also took time to guide students
on how to prepare for and approach questions during their
examination. The interaction with students was a total success and
we expect to see an improvement in performance in the May 2017
exams.

Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers East Africa branch held an
evening cocktail get together for its members at our new
secretariat office on Saturday 29th of October 2016. The
cocktail party was organized courtesy of the membership committee
in liaison with branch Executive Committee.
The official opening of the new Institute East Africa Branch
offices was as always a great networking opportunity for members
and also the perfect occasion to introduce to the branch the newly
elected members and newly promoted fellows: Jesca Webure MICS,
Leonard Mwangi MICS, Walid Ali Timimi MICS and Elijah Ndungu
FICS.
