Captain Mike Robarts FICS becomes IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador (GMA)

Captain Mike Robarts FICS, Chairman of the London and South East branch of the Institute has been appointed by the IMO as Goodwill Maritime Ambassador for the United Kingdom.

The primary role of the GMA is to "share their passion about the maritime world with others, particularly young people who are starting out on their further education, apprenticeships and career pathways. By reaching out, IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassadors can engage, inspire, and call upon young people to consider careers at sea or in the maritime industries. The goal is to reach new target audiences and inspire a new generation of maritime experts and seafarers". "An IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador is a spokesperson or advocate for the maritime and seafaring professions". The full terms of reference for the role are attached. From these, it will be noted that successful candidates will have a proven track-record of engagement with young people, either currently or potentially engaged in the maritime sector, and able to demonstrate their commitment to the aims of the scheme.
