Posted on Friday, June 19, 2020
The Singapore Branch will be deliverying a new series of training sessions in partnership with SG Enable.
SG Enable is an agency dedicated to enabling persons with disabilities. The course involves training people with disabilities on the basic understanding of shipping. Thereafter, ICS will coordinate and assist in finding job placements in the maritime industry.
The results of a poll carried out a few months back indicated a positive response from the SSA member companies and ICS is confident that the support will grow. Capt. Subhangshu Dutt, the Chairman of the ICS Branch commented "Getting this initiative going in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis is an achievement. An even greater sense of satisfaction would be to see the candidates with disabilities getting placements and eventually anchored in a career in shipping."
We look forward to them becoming members of the ICS eventually. The first course is expected to commence by the end of June and higher-level courses would be available progressively.
The programme will provide an introductory knowledge on shipping for the participants. The course will cover the ship types, main cargo segments, and trade routes. The course will give also an understanding of the trading process and the documents involved. At the end of the programme, attendees will receive a certificate of attendance. Programme Objectives
