On 15th Nov, 2016 the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, Hong Kong Branch & The Hong Kong Shipowner's Association jointly sponsored a seminar on the topic of 'Cyber risk and cyber crime in the maritime industry', initiated by The American P & I Club and held at the offices of the law firm Stephenson Harwood.
Mr. Manson Cheung FICS, Vice-Chairman of the Institute's Hong Kong Branch opened the seminar and introduced the speakers which included, Mr. Paul Taylor, Director, Financial Advisory, Deloitte, Hong Kong, who spoke about the various types of cyber crime that is being encountered; Mr. John Wilson FICS, Director of Technical Services Asia for The American P & I Club, Hong Kong, presented the guidelines that have thus far been introduced to help counter cyber risk and crime, and discussed what practical 'loss prevention' measures ship operators and others in the maritime and related industries could now adopt; Mr. Andrew Ridgen Green, Partner, Stephenson Harwood, Hong Kong, spoke about the legal remedies available to victims of cyber crime, and Mr. Andrew Brooker, Founding Partner, Latitude Brokers, Hong Kong discussed the insurance products available to help protect against losses incurred by cyber crime. After the presentations, Mr. Arthur Bowring FICS, Director of The Hong Kong Shipowner's Association acted as moderator and posed some questions to the speakers and fielded questions from the assembled audience of some 70 people.
