ICS is pleased to report a successful revision and networking event organised in Rotterdam on the 22nd January. We were delighted to see a lot of enthusiasm from students taking exams in April this year and members who came to offer some help to students looking for specialised knowledge. The revision event was followed by a drinks reception at the Hotel New York, where other members joined to celebrate ICS get together for the first time in Rotterdam.
It was great to see a lot of interest from shipping professionals commited to maintaining the highest professional standards. In the view of increasing demand for professional education evidenced during the past three years, ICS Head Office very much hopes to open a branch in the Netherlands soon.
Rotterdam has always been one of the main centres of the shipping industry in the Netherlands; the largest port in Europe and one of the busiest ports in the world. Rotterdam's commercial and strategic importance is based on its location near the mouth of the Nieuwe Maas (New Meuse), a channel in the delta formed by the Rhine and Meuse on the North Sea. These rivers lead directly into the centre of Europe, including the industrial Ruhr region. Being the largest port in Europe it provides excellent access to the hinterland upstream reaching to Basel, Switzerland and into France.
