On Saturday 8th February, Rekia Larteykaa Torgbor a student member of the Institute, Founder and CEO of Centre for Maritime Training and Development Foundation hosted the ICS West Africa Branch.
The Foundation provides a platform, empowers and projects younger women pursuing careers in maritime, logistics and oil & gas through mentoring programs and training tools.
Nathaniel Kojo Nti FICS, the General Secretary and Richmond Nfodwo MICS, the Students Coordinator of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, West Africa branch were facilitators at the orientation, training and mentoring session for the 2020 Cohort of the Foundation's She Mentors Shipping Mentoring program.
They introduced the ten ladies with diverse tertiary educational backgrounds to the world of shipping and the institute's professional courses they could pursue to enhance their capacity and employability within the industry.
The Institute's student member, CEO and maritime trainer Jeffrey Botchway of Masser Afrique also enlightened the ladies on career opportunities and changing trends within the maritime, oil & gas and logistics space. He also encouraged them to take advantage of entrepreneurial opportunities.
Georgina Bartels, the Regional Talent Manager of Newmont Mining Corporation and Dr. Alberta Akrong, Director of Innovative Strategies Ventures had an interactive mentoring session with the young er women. They shared nuggets on the essence of personal development and had a career guidance engagement with the ladies.
The event was successful and the Foundation is looking forward to more partnerships with the Institute.
