Posted on Saturday, June 18, 2016
On the 17th June, the East Anglian Branch and their guests sailed from Ipswich wet dock on the Orwell Lady. The river cruise took approximately three and a half hours, during which time the Orwell Lady sailed down the River Orwell to Harwich and Felixstowe ports and then returned back up river to Ipswich.
Although it had been raining throughout the day the rain stopped for the beginning of the cruise. Everyone was in a jovial mood and many were on deck with cameras in hand.
Greetings and glasses were raised to many passing vessels along the route with everyone enjoying the relaxed and informal atmosphere. Unfortunately, the weather didn't hold off and by the time they were half way to Harwich and Felixstowe the rain and wind began in earnest. However, it did provide an opportunity for everyone on board to head under deck to sample the bar and the cuisine on offer.
As they approached Felixstowe the rain eased and the winds died down allowing the majority to make their way back to the deck to take in the sights of some of the largest container ships in the world.
The return journey was kinder with the weather and many enjoyed the sunset views from the deck. Two comedians were on board to provide entertainment for the return leg. A raffle for the Branch Education Fund managed to raise in the region on £400.00
The Branch is currently in the process of planning their next event and hope the next one is as successful as this one.
