Posidonia 2016 bid farewell to over 22,000 shipping industry professionals who visited the world's most prestigious maritime event to meet, network and do business with more than 1,800 exhibitors from 90 countries deployed across 40,000 sqm at Athens Metropolitan Expo.
There was a 14% increase in visitor numbers compared to the previous record-breaking edition two years ago and this increase in numbers was certainly felt at the Institute Greece branch booth present in Hall 2, a meeting point for all Greece members and students.
Furthermore a significant amount of people visited the branch stand, where they were informed about the Institute professional qualifications, the benefits of the Institute membership and the branch programs offered locally.

The event overall was a great success and the presence of the Institute Greece branch at the exhibition ensured an important promotion of the Institute across the maritime industry.
During the Exhibition, the Greece branch participated at a number of forums, discussions and events:
Young Executives Shipping Forum - a platform for open dialogue between shipping professionals, principals and executives of the shipping industry, and university and college students, as well as young graduates.
1st Young Executives Shipping Forum - the next generation of the Greek shipowners and the decision makers of the shipping community held an open dialogue with more than 1,300 aspiring young professionals and students. The dialogue addressed more than 150 questions covering all issues on shipping matters raised by the young generation.
Open Seminar organized by ALBA - The American College of Greece entitled "SEA… Your Future. Key stakeholders' perspectives of the shipping industry". The Institute Greece branch Managing Director Ms Natalia Margioli participated in the discussion regarding current trends and challenges in the maritime world and stressed the importance of maritime education and professional qualifications in the shipping industry.
The Institute Greece Branch also supported a Posidonia Conference by I.M.E.Q. Center - a research foundation in collaboration with K.AIMS, PNOH Center and Akrifoundation Organization. The project presented was "Psychology in Shipping: EQ Training and Ship Manning & Safety".

Last but not least, the Greece Branch soccer team competed at the hugely popular five-a-side Posidonia Shipsoccer Tournament and some of our students and staff participated at the Posidonia Running Event. Congratulations to all for their effort and enthusiasm!
The branch had a great opportunity participating in the event and promoting the Institute principles, values and high standards: the Posidonia week is already a memory but its magnitude will certainly benefit the Institute locally and globally in the future.
