BANK PROVIDES CASH SUPPORT TO NEW TEESSIDE CHARITY

Young people across Teesside are set to benefit from an injection of cash and hands-on support from one of the UK's leading financial institutions.

Through its Community Grants programme, Royal Bank of Scotland has announced that it is donating £50,000 to The High Tide Foundation, a charity created and driven by port-related businesses to provide opportunities for the young people of Teesside.

Announcing the grant, Cameron Ruff, of RBS's Large Corporate Coverage team, said:

"I am personally very proud to be a part of the High Tide initiative which supports local enterprise and the Teesport community.  In my view everyone deserves the opportunity to build a sustainable career as a foundation for a fulfilling future.  The High Tide initiative is an important route for this in the Teesside area."

David Robinson, CEO of PD Ports and one of the Foundation's trustees said: "We are delighted that RBS has decided to support the High Tide initiative as a cornerstone investor.  It is of critical importance for the health of the Teesport and the local community to provide skills and a sense of direction for young people locally. High Tide supports local youth employment for the Port and  by making this major donation,  RBS has played an important role in underpinning the charity's financial strength and early momentum to help unlock sustainable longer-term benefits".

As well as funding, RBS will also provide in-kind resources to a number of the charity's programmes, including its Summer Scheme, which offers school leavers a 2 week work experience placement with businesses in and around Teesport.

RBS will also work with High Tide to offer local schools its free 'Money Sense' programme, which helps young people develop skills to manage their money so they can thrive in today's society and be prepared for independent living.

Commenting on the new partnership, Kevin Shakesheff, boss of Teesport-based Casper Shipping, and High Tide's chairmansaid:  "This really is wonderful news.  The support from RBS will make a massive difference to our work to improve opportunities for young people in this area.  We are very grateful indeed for their generosity."
