ICSANZ Bespoke Commercial Shipping Practice Course and Workshop
The 10th edition of this popular two day course was held in Melbourne over the 18th and 19th April 2023. It was in Melbourne where we first started holding this course in 2015.
There were 15 attendees this year from oil and resource companies, logistic and storage providers, shipowners and ship agencies. There was an equal balance between women and men reflecting the changing face of the shipping industry here in Australia.
Nigel D'Souza FICS as Course Director was his usual enthusiastic self displaying his wide knowledge of the shipping industry in its entirety. Nick Vann FICS acted as Course Coordinator and provided examples and anecdotes from a career in tanker chartering.
On the first day Elizabeth De Leon, Senior Voyage Coordinator at Stolt Tankers and an ICS student, gave a short talk on the benefits of studying within the ICS educational programme. On the second day Manisha Taneja, the Chartering Operations Manager at Incitec Pivot and an ICS Member, gave a fascinating presentation on how to balance regulatory compliance in shipping and its affect on the supply chain.
Initial feedback was positive and several participants stayed behind to discuss some of the issues raised in the course. As the course was oversubscribed we plan to hold the course again later in the year possibly in Perth or Brisbane.
