Posted on Thursday, July 4, 2024

On January 16, 2024, The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers - Middle East branch conducted a Networking Event at Dusit Thani, Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai. The event garnered substantial success, drawing the participation of over 80 shipping professionals from the region. The focal point of discussion was the pressing industry concern of Decarbonization.

Captain Dheeraj Sharma, representing ABS Marine & Offshore, took the stage as the main speaker. Supported by esteemed panellists, including Mr. Tim Coffin, Mr. Michael Dos Santos, and Dr. Hakan Kahramani, Captain Sharma delivered a compelling presentation on the intricacies of Decarbonization. The interactive session allowed them to address numerous questions posed by the engaged audience. What made the event intriguing was the inclusion of speakers from three distinct areas: investments in low carbon tonnage, the perspective of ship operators regarding the impact of decarbonization, and efforts related to green financing and eco-friendly initiatives.

The evening's High-Tea sponsorship was graciously provided by Rais Hassan Saadi group. Mr. M. Madhu, their representative, elucidated on the significance of their continued support for ICS. The group has consistently been sponsors for several years, underlining their commitment to the industry.

In addition to the insightful discussions and sponsor acknowledgments, the event marked the induction of a new fellow, Luke Macbourn Corera, FICS, who was warmly welcomed into the fold by the branch. The event thus not only served as a platform for knowledge exchange but also highlighted the ongoing support from industry sponsors and the expansion of the ICS Middle East branch's membership
