SA branch prize giving

Posted on Thursday, July 4, 2024

The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers South Africa branch held a prize giving lunch on March the 8th at the Royal Natal Yacht Club, Durban.

The SA branch chairlady, Catherine Moodie, welcomed all to the event to celebrate the achievements of our students for the past two years.  The last prize giving event took place 4th December 2019 - 27 months ago.

It has been two + years and the words staring with a "C" continue but on this day the words were Celebration and Congratulations.

Catherine, provided a brief recap of the ICS and their involvement in the local shipping communication, growing and maintaining the SA ICS membership as well as feedback on how our students were progressing in the courses on offer through the branch.

There has been a great drive from larger organisation and the government placing focus on employment in our industry.  But with the ICS, students, and professionals, who seek the international recognition as well as networking with others in the industry to grow their knowledge, contacts and business skills have enrolled their employees on one of the ICS courses.

The newer International Understanding Shipping course has been very successful since the launch SA, being one of the first branches with the online course, in August 2020. To date they branch is into their 6th cohort with cohort 7 enrolments coming in for commencing in May.

The speaker for the event was Mr John Harris, who provided a motivational speech on how life is like a tight rope.

We congratulate all our prize winners and look forward to new enrolments, more corporate participation, and greater achievements in the year ahead.
