    Dr. L R Chary, consultant and academician who presented the webinar on ‘Application of Artificial intelligence (AI)/ Machine learning (ML) in Shipping’ on 21st November 2020 as part of the ICS Middle East branch Silver Jubilee webinar series explained how different algorithms are used in decision making by AI-based systems.

    Dr. Chary, in his inimitable style explained how Kalman Filter and Bellman Equation helps in arriving at decisions in shipping applications such as collision avoidance and ship sale & purchase.

    During the Question and Answer session which followed the webinar, a wide range of topics including the future of AI-based systems, the challenges and opportunities, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in maritime university courses, etc. were discussed.…

  • Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) Middle East Branch Networking Event & High Tea

    The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers – Middle East branch conducted Networking Hi Tea Event on 17th January 2023 at the Millennium Airport Hotel, Airport Road, Dubai. It was attended by over 55 shipping professionals from the region.

    The event started with a networking session. This was followed by an excellent presentation by Mr. Manu Palerichal, FCA, CMA & CA Purvi Mehta, BCom, ACA, on the topic ' PREPARING THE SHIPPING INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS FOR CORPORATE TAX '. The presentation covered highlights of the Taxability, Residential Status, Treatment of non-residential person’s shipping income, Tax Group, Treatment of Losses, Related party transactions & Key Takeaways.

    The presentation was followed by an interactive Q & A session. The branch also awarded 2 branch members one who got promoted as FICS ( Mr. Alishan Wazir & another who got newly appointed as MICS Ms. Janani Yagnamurthy), after which our branch Vice Chairman made few announcements about our upcoming events followed by closing remarks.…
