Posted on Friday, May 10, 2019
Gertrude Adwoa Ohene-Asienim FICS, Chair of the West Africa Branch and Vice Chair of the Membership Committee, gave her availability to meet with local members in Houston on her visit to the US in May.
A couple of members could make it to downtown Houston on 10th May: Hemant Chopra FICS and Surinder Singh MICS.
Hemant and Surinder knew each other from their work experience in Dubai and had been colleagues years back before Surinder moved to Houston and Hemant moved to Australia.
Both have been part of very vibrant branches and were hungry for networking opportunities among Institute members in Houston and in the US in general, where the Institute does not have a branch... yet!
Gertrude's visit and the gathering gave the opportunity to both to start thinking of working together and planning forward activities locally.
Hemant has already started helping out head office in the US by coordinating this year's exams in his Houston office.
It was great to get two enthusiastic members together after a long while and get talking about all things ICS at last.
Both Houston members look forward to the next networking opportunity and some ideas were tabled around liaising with other maritime organisations to start something.
