What level can I start at? |
We offer 3 levels of
qualifications: our Foundation Diploma, Advanced Diploma and
Professional Qualifying Examinations.
The Foundation Diploma is ideal for those with
little industry
experiencebut who would like to gain
practical knowledge. It involves completing our Introduction to
Shipping paper plus one other subject from Group 1 (compulsory subjects
except Shipping Business)
or Group 2
(specialism
subjects).
The Advanced Diplomais geared towards
upskilling
those who have
some industry
knowledge. It involves completing
our Shipping
Business paper plus one other subject from Group 1 (compulsory
subjects except Introduction to Shipping) or Group 2 (specialism
subjects).
Diploma qualifications
contribute two PQE credits. Any subject examination
pass contributes one PQE
credit.
The Professional Qualifying
Examinations is the Institute's highest
qualification. It involves
completing seven papers which demonstrates your developed knowledge and
understandingof the commercial shipping
industry. You
must complete four compulsory papers plus three papers from a list of 12
optional subjects.

How much does an ICS qualification cost? |
Students are required to
pay an
annual registration
fee(£142 for 2024/25 intake
year). As well
as an examination entry of £179 per subject
(discounted rates are
offered for early enrolments).
Students will also pay
an additional cost per subject
dependant on their
study method.
ICS Online Academy (includes student reg fee
and exam
entry):
£1,145.00 for 1 subject, additional subjects £1,045.00
each.
TutorShip
(includes exam entry):
£795 per
subject
Students are also welcome
to self-studyand simply pay for course materials,
such as the coursebooks.
Depending on where you
are located you may be able to study
locally with one of our accredited International Teaching Centres
or Recognised Partners and gain pastoral support
from
our network of local
branches.

When can I start? |
The Institute's
academic
year runs June-May (enrolment opened 17 June
for 2024/25).
For our November examinations
you must be enrolled by
early October (specific date is given per academic
year). For
our May
examinationsyou must be enrolled by
early April (10 April for 2024/25).
You can start studying for
your exams as soon as you are enrolled. If you are planning to study through our
ICS Online
Academy you should enrol as soon as
possible to gain the maximum value and time from the
programme. Live classes run from
January - May leading up to the final
exams.

How can I enrol? |
To sit an exam with the
Institute you must register as a student. You can create your
account online at https://shipbrokers.org/
Once you have created your
account, you
can select the subjects you wish to
study through
your ShipBrokers
account.

Am I eligible for module exemptions? |
Students with relevant
professional or educational qualifications or experience may apply for exemptions
for a maximum of 4 subjects.
Evidence of your
qualifications in the form of a
certificate and transcript will be required to support any exemption
application. Exemptions
are only granted towards our
Professional Qualifying Examinations (PQE).
There is an exemption fee
of £195 GBP
per subject (2024/25
rate
) and this
must be paid by 31 May for our 2024/25
academic year.

Can I study online? |
Yes. You can study
all our educational courses online
through enrolling with our ICS Online
Academy. Classes run January-May each
year.
